The aim is to allow investing partners the option to invest in a particular project, and take the risks associated with that project or to invest in the fund which will invest in all the projects and share the success of them out amongst all partners.
TurboCASH for Linux

Accounting is the last mainstream Application not widely available on the Linux Desktop. With Open Office, Thunderbird, Firefox and TurboCASH we are effectively able to a ship a free business software PC. TurboCASH will be redeveloped and optimised for the Linux environment.
Ubuntu Linux sponsored by Mark Shuttleworth has a strong South African community and would be a favored partner for this project. We would target the product for use on this platform.
Redhat is a leading Linux Distribution and would also be a favoured target platform for TurboCASH for Linux.
Lazarus Pascal

Open Source requires a strong development environment. This is particularly so for the Linux environment. There are a number of them out there Python, C++, Java Ruby, PHP. Lazarus Pascal represents an interesting alternative. What makes Lazarus viable is that it is an independent project and not owned or controlled by the big American Software companies. We would also be able to leverage much of the TurboCASH technology. IT has a strong following in South Africa. We would want to work on Lazarus to create upstreaming relationship with the vast Delphi Tools market that is available.

There is a growing need for web services. People want to share accounts across a VPN or the Internet. TurboCASH will be redeveloped to work as a thin client application. This will allow accounting data to be sorted in a location easily accessible to outside expertise. This is an ideal means to outsource the accounting function.

TurboCASH is the worlds leading Open Source Accounting Package for Small business. The product is ideal for users of 1 to 5 Accountants. There is a need to extend this technology for between 5 and 50 users. This means replacing the current Database and increasing security. This project would entail network simulation and testing routines.

There is no high quality payroll package available in Open Source. Most payroll packages tend to be parochial affairs that deal with local requirements. What is needed is a framework whereby local accountants and non-programmers can update and modify the calculations for whatever legislation is required. This One program - run anywhere approach has been beneficial to TurboCASH and would be well received in the Payroll market.

There are servers like Sourceforge, CNET and TwoCows available for downloading software. These tend to be for geeks and developers. What we are aiming for is a server that delivers Free and Open Source Software to South Africans.
Our input will be to develop the storage database and to "package and add value to each item offered for download.

Documentation is the Brother-in-Prison of the Open Source Industry. Almost all OS projects are "underdone" on Documentation. This is a major weakness. The missing components is a server environment that coodinates translation and documentation efforts.

Open Office is the leading Open Source Office Package. They have Word processing, Spreadsheet, Presentation. They use the OASIS XML format. We should be linking these modules through to TurboCASH and to local institutions. This would make the uptake of this package a whole lot simpler.

Small businesses rely on cell phones to keep mobile. Large corporates now have cell phones integrated into their corporate networks. We should be developing 3G interfaces between SME users and their desktops or hosted apps.

These addons adn Plugins can be developed as extensions to TurboCASH.

The prevailing accounting packages allow for VAT errors to creep in. Companies unknowingly overstate their VAT commitments. Using Accounting Experts and data mining modules, we are able to recover VAT for users. This requires software developement to handle sifting through the large amounts of transactions.
