Training the Defensive Stance

  • The Defensive stance will not come naturally to most players who have not learned Defense from an early age.
  • Repetition of taking up the stance

Get the stance right

  • Standing erect, knees slightly bent
  • Toe of ouside foot in line with inside foot
  • Feet facing forward . Not duck footed
  • Chect out, Butt out
  • Bend the knees
  • Lean forward
  • Place hand onto ground
  • Straighten legs slightly
  • Push off from toes
  • Lift head up
    • Coach must walk up and down looking for bent backs, they must be taken aside and stgart again
    • Coach must be able to "kick" front hand without player falling on his face.
    • Player must be in balance

Resetting the position

  • Take up 3 point Stnace
  • On coaches Call move 5 paces to the left or right and reset.
    • Repeaset this exersize, whicle "Chopping" the Feet.

Using the Rope

An 18 Meter Rope is standard equipment for Training Iron Rugby.

  • Rope is doubled over and 4 players hold the Rope. 3 Meters apart
  • They take the 3 Point Stance and hold the rope in hand.
  • On hte poaches call they move left or rigth and Reset.
    • The coach uses a heavy bag to represent the Ruck and the Players must line up Strong left or Strong right.
