What are Ambassadors?

As a GNU GPL Project, The TurboCASH Project is very much aware of our role as a member of the Open Source community.

The Concepts of "upstreaming" and "downstreaming" open up the vast communities of developers and users in other Open Source communities. These relationships are vital for the development of our project. These roles are similar to those of the code module owners. The relationships are much wider and more loosely put together than code modules, they are less programming roles and more political roles. They involve a collaborative approach. We call these roles - Ambassadors.

An Ambassador must be a person of high standing in the Open Source community. They need a track record of Open source participation and must at least be members of multiple projects. They must be technically capable in both projects and must understand the goals of TurboCASH and the target project. The role of an Ambassador is to facilitate communication between the projects and to muster whatever resources are required to achieve this. Ambassadors must be active on the forums of both projects and must belong to all the required mailing groups to put together collaboration. They must make fast decisions and we will give them full support in these.

Ambassadorships are not limited to Open Source projects. In the real world we still deal with Commercial projects (Embrace. Extend, Eliminate). While we prefer OS projects, practically we should not exclude anyone.

Becoming an Ambassador

You may be a strong member of another project, who is interested in linking to TurboCASH. Claim an Ambassadorship and use this as the starting point to propagate your will. Please remember that by accepting this role you are accepting the role of advancing the TurboCASH cause. Hopefully this will not differ substantially from the Target project's goals. It is your role to bring these together.

If you wish to become an Ambassador, please add your name on this Wiki and a new page specifically dedicated to that project. We will appoint 1 Ambassador for each project. If these Ambassadorships are already taken you can still join an "Embassy", but must work through the designated Ambassador. There are some examples below. The process is this:

Use this Wiki as the starting point.

1) "Claim" your nomination. Edit this page to include the project that you wish to manage.
2) Your appointment will be subject to the peer review of the members of the TurboCASH project. We have no formal process for this yet, so we have no means yet of choosing between competing nominations but let us cross that bridge when we get to it. Let us say that right of first claim will be a very strong factor. Thereafter you will hold your Ambassadorship based on performance.
3) Please do not remove an Ambassador's name once it has been put there. This Wiki is a free-form editor, but please respect a protocol on it. Where I have begun discussions, I have put my name down "Philip Copeman" - these Ambassadorships are up for grabs - contact me if you would like to take over one of these.
4) On the project page we will start to lay out the goals that we wish to achieve with each project. You will be responsible for defining the relationship with each project.
